AMNESIA HAZE! PRE-ORDER NOW!

-.-.-.-.-.Listen to "CASTLES WILL FALL" from our upcoming record -.-.-.-.-.

Our newest LP, Amnesia Haze, is available for pre-order.
Street date 10/6/17 Safety Meeting Records. Tell your local record store that they'd be doing everyone a solid by carrying VLG stuff. We're certain that they'd agree.

GO HERE to order now and sweat it out until the release date.

Here's what you need to know...
On their 5th full length album, Amnesia Haze, the group set out to deal with some serious shit. The band entered the studio 2 days after the Presidential election. With disgust and uncertainty driving the session the lyrics had changed and the performances intensified. What was once abstractly political had become unapologetically direct. Racial violence, gun violence, police violence, street harassment, xenophobia, fascism, feminism, every point of rage and discourse the country was feeling. Patriarchal Reptile, a free-noise piece voiced by Theremin player Alison Hunger, was recorded and added to the album last minute as a response to the thin-skinned gynophobiac set to lead our country. Amnesia Haze is a cry for unity and awakening  from a band sick of fucking around.

-----------GUESS WHAT ELSE!!!--------------

We'd like to introduce to you our brand new drummer, Ascension 'Izzy' Price!
You may know Izzy from drumming in the Phone Calls, Die Time, Disrobe, and as the leader of get Up With The Get Downs. And as sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
our songwriting has intensified and the jams rival the atom-splitting power of Sern Labs. Welcome to the cult, Izzy!

-----------GUESS WHAT ELSE!!--------

We're opening for NIK TURNER'S HAWKWEED on 10/23 at Reggie's in Chicago!
Get your tickets HERE as soon as you can!

That is all for now.
Stay safe, lock arms, and tell them all to fuck off...

An Inauguration Day Message....

FREE / PATRIARCHAL REPTILE

On Martin Luther King, Jr., day we commemorate the Presidential Inauguration of Donald J. Trump and the Women’s March on Washington, D.C. by streaming 2 new songs by the Velcro Lewis Group.
The future-funk anthem, “Free”, calls out Trump and the blood thirsty racists that love him. “Patriarchal Reptile” is an abrasive feminist rant aimed at the puny pussy-grabbers who’s superiority complexes mask their true fear; women.

As the Trump regime begins to dig its disease-ridden claws into our nation’s freedom many of us fear for our health and safety. The Republican agenda has been crafted to oppress the rights of black and brown people, women, LGBT, and the disabled. The rest of the country will become collateral damage while the GOP scorches the Earth. Before the eminent war on art begins and freedom of speech becomes a punchline the Velcro Lewis Group wanted to tell you something: The partys over. Now is not the time to stay in bed. Now is not the time to cry. It is time to call out every enemy that threatens our country. Mitch McConnell & Paul Ryan, the NRA & the MRA, and every bastard in-between - we’re going to hold your feet to the fire until you listen or someday you'll fall into the flames.

JAMMING THE TRUMP AGENDA

The Trump agenda and the policies it embraces are now a horrifying reality, one that poses serious threats to the planet and millions of Americans...especially women, immigrants, refugees, all people of color, indigenous people, Muslims, LGBTQ Americans, and many others. That's why we've chosen to put together this phenomenal compilation of music from an enormo-array of BBiB artists, all who've provided a really wonderful, rare piece of music. All proceeds from this compilation will go to two organizations, the ACLU and Sierra Club, as they tirelessly fight for the rights of all walks of life and the future of the planet.

SEISMIC ALPHABET - new album by John Forbes and Velcro Lewis Group

What would it be like if the Velcro Lewis Group & John Vernon Forbes made a record in just one day?

Wednesday, June 17, 2015

John Forbes & Velcro Lewis Group - 'Tears Are Gone' Single & Video

Velcro Lewis Group made a record with John Vernon Forbes.
It was written and recorded on January 15,2015.
The first single is "Tears Are Gone."
The video was made by Suzy Mae.

Ok, those are the facts, now here's the truth...

We went into the studio to jam out some ideas for the next Velcro Lewis Group album.
Forbes was hanging out at Frogg Mountain smoking tea and tuning an electric piano with a ball peen.
Since we didn't want to kick him out (he is our buddy) we asked him to join us in our session.
The result is "Seismic Alphabet", 8 songs, 45 minutes long.
You know some folks use ALL the parts of the pig? Bacon, ham, feet, snout scrapple?
Well, we used every damn part of this session on this record.
Basically, all the songs were written on the spot with a little bit of overdubbing after the fact.
This album will show just how we operate.
We jam, give Hawk a mic while he drums, Velcro comes up with some silly theme for the jam and there's your cookie.

Seismic Alphabet will be released in July! CDS, tapes, download, VHS...
We had fun making it, you'll have fun sitting around and listening to it.

Advanced copies of Seismic Alphabet will be available for sale at PRFBBQ 6/19-21.
The band performs their PRF set 6/19 at Quencher's Saloon in Chicago.

Jingle Jangle Morning Remix Party!

Everyone loves a remix. Whether its the extended club-dub 12 inch mix of Shannon’s “Let The Music Play” to the first ever mash-up, “Rebel Without A Pause”, by The Evolution Control Committee, most weirdoes agree that remixes are fun. We hear at the Velcro Lewis Group could take ‘em or leave ‘em but we are intrigued by prospective madness our fans could create if given the right tools and a little encouragement.

In September, the Velcro Lewis Group released the single, “Jingle Jangle Morning.” The song has been a staple of the band’s live performance for years and honestly, we’re getting kind of bored with it. So, now seems like the perfect time to host a re-mix party!. Let’s breathe some new life into this jam.
“Sounds fun, right?”
“Sure.”

We’ve made it easy to create your own mix of “Jingle Jangle Morning.”
Send an email HERE and we’ll send you a link to download the file folder. We will also send some words of encouragement to help you define your mix. Something like: “Rufus Thomas playing tennis in a spacesuit” or “High tea with a man-sized cockroach.” It’ll be your choice to follow our lead or not.

Once you’ve downloaded the folder:
·       Import each track into your favorite DAW (Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton, Tascam Portal, Audacity, etc).
·       Align the tracks and have at it!
·       Do WHATEVER you want with the content, we don’t care.
·       There are many ingredients to this mix so the possibilities are endless.
  • Mash it up
  • Add your own vocals or guitars
  • Rap over it
  • Dub-step it (whatever that means)
  • Mix it better than Velcro did for the original
  •  Work on it with your Gramma
  •   Whatever

We will create a digital album that will feature everyone’s mix (yes every single mix) and make it available for free download.

Deadline for submissions is April 5, 2015. (soft deadline)

Theme Song To "Now What?"(CW pilot)

When we were asked to write the theme to a new television pilot we didn’t know what to think.
All the we knew was that it was called, “NOW WHAT?” and that it was a sit-com featuring Jeremy Piven. The good people at the CW called us Thursday afternoon (Jan 15/last night) and wanted a demo by this afternoon (Friday Jan 16). So we spent 6 minutes on it and here’s what we came up with…

Just 6 minutes after we submitted the song to the producer of the show we received this response:

-----Start Forwarded Message----------
Dear Velcro,
Thank you for the quick turnaround, however, coa ihouhf oihvhv 4345t v ojnsf kvgrn!???

Whirlwind Music Video

We've launched a collaborative video project!
We jam all the time, endless hours of great material. Some of it too long, some of it too short, all of it outstanding.

In order to justify the release of these jams and to make it seem a little less self-indulgent, we've invited some of our favorite video artists to pair some image to our sounds.

First up we have "Whirlwind".
Frank Pollard made the video.
The band recorded the jam on December 11, 2014. Each jam will be recorded and composed live on the spot with as little overdubbing as possible (sometimes you've just got to add the vocoder after the fact. The jam sessions are recorded at Frogg Mountain Studios by John Forbes and Velcro Lewis.

We encourage everyone to turn the volume down on our videos and add your own soundtrack. Play Donnie Iris over it or something. The Magic Box always works!
